Ecodiverse has so far built 50 traditional hives at FOTA FARM to provide the area's bees with a sanctuary where they can thrive and multiply in a healthy environment full of biodiversity.

To highlight the plight of bees and their importance to global food production, the UN has chosen to declare May 20 as International Bee Day.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) estimates that 100 crop types make up 90 percent of the world's food - of these, 71 are bee-pollinated.
The value of insect pollination of natural plants - this value cannot be quantified in monetary terms, but it helps to ensure the diversity of wild plants and provides food for birds and game. Fruit trees and berry bushes also benefit from pollination by these industrious insects. There is therefore good reason to take an interest in these industrious little creatures.
